About Christopher

I have played cello for over thirty years, and been an active professional musician in Southern California for over twenty years. I am Assistant Principal Cellist with the Sea Coast Symphony, a position I’ve held for thirteen seasons, and have maintained a steady and active private cello studio for twenty years. Students from my studio have won positions in their local school district honors orchestras and youth orchestras, and have graduated high school to continue their music studies at the collegiate levels at UC Irvine, CSU Long Beach, University of Redlands, MIT, UC San Diego, and Chapman University. I am also certified in Suzuki pedagogy, having been taught by Rick Mooney and Dr. Tanya Carey. I graduated from CSU Long Beach with a BM in Instrumental Music, and studied with Dr. David Garrett of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. I also work as a Teaching Artist with YOLA (Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles), which is based on the El Sistema program based in Venezuela.

About the lesson

My goal with each student, regardless of age or level, is to give them the foundations that will help them achieve the goals they want to achieve while developing a deeper love for the cello. From preparing for college auditions or competitions to performing in front of an audience for the very first time, every student is unique with their own journey on the cello.

The free first lesson with Christopher allows you to get to know the tutor and discuss your needs and expectations.

Details

In person lessons, regardless of lesson length, are conducted at my home studio in Costa Mesa, CA.

Online lessons, regardless of length, are primarily conducted via Zoom and Facetime, but I am flexible with other platforms if required and communicated.

Any new family to my studio, regardless of in person or online, are welcome to have a 30 minute trial lesson with me absolutely free of charge. I liken this to a meet and greet for all parties (parents, student, and teacher) to make sure everyone is comfortable before committing to lessons. Please note, if you are interested in purchasing a pack of lessons the trial lesson does not count toward the total amount of lessons purchased.
