About Kateryna

I am a professional cellist and experienced cello teacher, with teaching experience in both the UK and Ukraine. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) and a Bachelor’s degree from the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music in Kyiv. I also hold an ABRSM Diploma in Music Teaching and am a Benedetti Foundation Ambassador. I currently teach privately and at the RCS Juniors Music Centre, working with children and adults of different ages and levels. Alongside teaching, I am an active performer and regularly work across a variety of musical styles and ensembles, including Culture Code, Progressive Time and the folk trio Dukach. Classical music is my main area of training, but I also enjoy performing pop, folk and rock. I believe this broad musical experience helps me bring different perspectives and ideas into my teaching. I am passionate about helping students develop not only as musicians, but also as confident and independent performers who genuinely enjoy playing the cello.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student’s age, level, interests and goals. I teach children and adults, from complete beginners to more advanced players. Whether you want to learn the cello as a hobby, prepare for ABRSM exams, develop your playing, or work towards an audition or music school/college entrance, I can help you build strong technique, musical understanding, confidence and performance skills. I also offer music theory support upon request. Depending on your goals, lessons can include cello technique, posture, note reading, repertoire, musicianship, musical expression, performance preparation and exam preparation. I adapt the programme and teaching approach to each student rather than following the same structure for everyone. I particularly enjoy helping students work towards a clear goal and seeing their progress over time. I believe lessons should be enjoyable, but also purposeful, with a focus on meaningful progress and developing students into confident and independent musicians. I offer cello lessons in Glasgow, including home visits. For beginners who are not yet ready to buy an instrument, I can also provide a student cello (3/4 or 4/4 size) to use while getting started.

Perfect! As a total beginner, I was quite apprehensive about learning something as complex as the cello. However, Kateryna's patient, enthusiastic and curious approach to teaching meant that I was able to develop my skills, understanding and confidence whilst having lots of fun. Kateryna tailored her lessons to meet my needs and provided supportive and constructive feedback, allowing us to maximise the time we had in each session. I would highly recommend Kateryna as a 5 star cello teacher! Thank you!
