About Sophia

I am a professional ballerina who has trained with companies such as Houston Ballet, Ballet West, Ellison Ballet, Palmetto City Ballet, The Washington Ballet, Charlotte Ballet, and more. I began dancing later than many of my peers, starting around age ten at a competition studio. From there, I transitioned to a primarily ballet-focused school and attended multiple summer intensives over the years.

Along with my extensive training, I have unfortunately experienced several injuries, many of which came from not fully understanding how to care for my body. These challenges pushed me to learn how to properly fuel, strengthen, and support my body so I can dance safely and sustainably.

In addition to teaching dance, I also teach conditioning classes designed to help dancers build strength, improve technique, increase flexibility, and support the longevity of their dancing.

About the lesson

Every lesson is different as every dancer is. I teach in a clear, patient, and supportive way. I break things down step‑by‑step and use examples to make learning easy. I always adapt to the student’s pace; I focus on what they need and how they learn best.

A typical lesson includes discussing their goals and what we need to focus on to get there. I also include time to strengthen any skills the student needs extra help with, so they feel more confident each week. I also like to focus on ensuring that students are understanding and using the correct muscles in order to prevent injuries in the future. Dancers need to be strong regardless of what anyone says.

What sets me apart is my approach of dancers needing to be treated similar to athletes as we need to prioritize our bodies health for stronger dance and longevity.

Excellent! Communication became difficult after we initially arranged a lesson. Unfortunately, after we agreed on a date I stopped receiving replies and the lesson never took place. This happened shortly after I told her I’m transgender. I can’t say whether the two were related, but that was the sequence of events, and I never received an explanation.

I’m giving four stars because I don’t know why the communication stopped, and I don’t want to make assumptions without evidence. However, I do think future students should know that this was my experience.
