About Felicity
I have an MA in English Language and Linguistics, awarded in 2021 by the University of Edinburgh. While studying, I decided to become a freelance writer, and my work has since appeared in The Times, Telegraph, Guardian and the Scotsman, all of which culminated in a publishing deal for a cookbook with Penguin in 2023. I have worked as a full-time outdoors journalist for the last two years for Bauer Media, and in August 2026 will be embarking on my teacher training. Essays are what I've built my career on, and I have a professional and academic understanding of what makes a good one and why.
As a tutor, I'll go over your essay with a fine-toothed comb and we'll decide together what it is that needs addressing. Usually, my students have every idea of what they want to say – they just struggle to get it down on paper, and need a hand with ordering the information they'd like to impart to the reader. I also help out with citations and bibliography, and of course will correct every little piece of syntax grammar that AI agents don't or won't pick up on.
As a person, I'm enthusiastic, open and engaging, and very student-led. As someone with a broad range of hobbies (mountaineering, reading, cookery, improv comedy, swimming and camping, to name a few), I'm able to chat with you about anything and everything, even if you may think you're quite shy at first!

With 8 years' experience copyediting, proofreading and restructuring a huge range of academic essays, literature reviews and PhD dissertations, I go far beyond what AI can do, ultimately making your writing sound like you, and not Chat GPT.
Lessons are an hour long in person, and the time absolutely flies when we've got our teeth into the root of the issue. I'll sit with you and your laptop, and we'll make a copy of your original document to make notes on. We'll go over the text and highlight anything that doesn't make sense, or perhaps needs a rethink, and then over time we'll refine your ideas and put them all in the right places, citing correctly as we go.
You'll gain an understanding of WHY you may need to restructure things in this way, and also strengthen your own inner writing voice. A lot of writers lack conviction or confidence to say what they really mean, so if this is you, we'll get it out of you in no time!
Most of the time, we can pinpoint exactly what needs to happen within the hour. It's then up to you as the student to go away and edit discursively, and I will be available as a follow-up proof-reading service online should you want this before handing in your work.
