About Adelaide

Hello! I am a singing teacher with over 4 years of experience teaching more than 200 students of all ages, backgrounds, and starting levels. My own musical training spans classical vocal technique, musical theater, and jazz, and this breadth allows me to teach across all these styles and to help students understand both what the styles share technically and how they differ in their expressive demands. I work with students from their first lesson ever through to professional-level preparation. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity grade examinations, for drama school and music college auditions, and for professional performance contexts. I also teach students who are singing purely for pleasure — perhaps for a choir, a community performance, or simply for themselves — and I bring the same level of technical care and musical seriousness to these students as to those with formal examination or performance goals. What I am most proud of in my teaching is the consistency with which students surprise themselves — producing sounds, reaching notes, and expressing themselves musically in ways that they genuinely did not believe were within their capability when we started. That surprise, turning into pride and growing confidence, is the most powerful motivator for continued development, and it is something I work to create for every student from the very first lesson.

About the lesson

Singing is uniquely personal among all the performing arts because the instrument is the body itself — which means that good singing teaching must begin with the body: how it breathes, how it supports sound, how it resonates, and how tensions and habits in one part of the body affect the sound that comes out. I begin every student relationship with a careful physical assessment, observing how the student breathes, stands, holds tension, and uses their voice before deciding what needs to be addressed first. Breath support is the foundation of everything, and I spend significant time with every student developing it — not just explaining it conceptually but developing the actual physical sensation of deep, supported breathing and learning to maintain that support through long phrases and demanding passages. On this foundation I build tone quality, resonance, register transitions, and range extension, always in the context of actual singing rather than as purely technical exercises disconnected from music. I work with students across classical, musical theater, jazz, and contemporary popular styles, adapting my teaching to the specific demands of each genre while maintaining the common technical foundations that underpin good singing in all styles. For students preparing for grade examinations, I cover all components of the assessment with thoroughness. For students preparing for auditions, I provide the kind of detailed coaching on communication, character, and stagecraft that makes the difference between a competent performance and a memorable one.
