About Ethan

I am a professional guitarist with a strong background in performing and recording. I have recorded for and performed with Grammy award winning musicians, and opened for famous bands. I was accepted into prestigious college music programs and attended UCLA for Ethnomusicology. I have experience running my own bands and composing music in various settings. I'm an expert when it comes to technique, and I know how to harness it as a tool for the creative process. I am currently teaching guitar/uke/bass to students of all ages at a music studio here in Oceanside. I'm well versed in a large variety of styles (metal, fusion, blues, jazz, prog, and more), and can help players of all skill levels reach their goals on guitar!

About the lesson

My approach as a teacher is to help students achieve all their personal goals on guitar, while making sure every student has the opportunity to understand how music works. I encourage my students to apply their understanding by creating their own music, so they can experience a deeper connection to their craft. By applying what we learn creatively, we begin to see technique and theory as the tools of expression, and therefore take joy in developing these skills.

Different students may have different goals on their instrument, so my first priority is identifying those goals, and picking an approach that is fun and useful. Beginner/Intermediate students usually enjoy progressing through songs, which is fun, and useful for developing technique. This can also be useful for analyzing how music theory is used to make songs. Intermediate/Advanced students may wish to focus on music theory and technique more directly, to take their playing/writing to the next level. This is a great route as well!
