About Safia
I'm Safia, and I'm super excited to help you improve your English literature or English language skills. I've been a private tutor for the past three years and also have a year of experience as a teaching assistant in school classrooms. Each of my lessons is tailored to individual student needs. I'm available to help students improve their exam technique, literary analysis, essay writing, and to generally boost their subject knowledge and confidence.
I have a first-class degree in English Literature and Linguistics from the University of Nottingham, and I'm currently studying my masters in Law and Legal Practice part-time.

One of the most important parts of teaching is helping students realise how capable they really are and instilling in them the confidence they need to achieve high results. To do this, I give a lot of encouragement throughout sessions and keep students engaged by filling our lessons with a range of activities (as well as exam writing), including matching-up exercises, quote analysis, creative writing exercises, and using spider webs to explore ideas.
I tailor every lesson to the requirements of individual students to help them fulfil their potential. For example, in our first English session I would look at an extract of text and ask questions about the text. This helps me assess which areas each student is finding difficult, and allows me to prepare future sessions which will help them build understanding in those particular areas.
Many of my students want to improve their English Language/Literature exam writing, so we do this by working through answers together, critiquing exemplar answers, and I also usually have students write their own exam answers which we mark together. I suggest ways to improve answers by encouraging students to participate with their diverse interpretations of the text, and in some cases, I'll write out my own example answers.
