About Keiran

I have tutored Latin and Ancient Greek for three years now. I have tutored students who are studying the languages for a variety of reasons. Some students have just needed help on a particular grammatical construction that has troubled them; some seek help for a school test or translation practice; some students have studied a language under my tuition from the start of their studies up until a particular exam (The last student that this applies to achieved an A* in her GCSE Latin papers in September 2017). I have also tutored students for university work, past work in this area includes tutoring Koine Greek (i.e. Ancient Greek used in the New Testament) or marking Latin literature papers for second year undergraduate students at Durham Classics Department. Finally, I should add, I have also tutored students who study these languages for fun and who are not aiming at sitting an examination.

About the lesson

I am an experienced classicist (Cambridge: BA; Durham: MA, PhD), who has tutored students in the Latin and Ancient Greek languages for three years now. I have primarily tutored students for the GCSE and A-Level examinations in these subjects, although I have also had previous experience tutoring university students and marking undergraduate papers at Durham. My method of instruction tends to be guided by the abilities and requirements of the individual student, nevertheless I am the type of tutor who concentrates very heavily on grammatical comprehension and translation skills. For a GCSE or A-Level student a typical lesson would involve the translation of an unseen text and the concentration on a particular grammatical or stylistic construction. If required I can set homework topics, which will ordinarily be marked and returned via e-mail. Typically I tutor online via Skype, but if needed I would be prepared to tutor students in the Bury St. Edmunds area at their own homes (if under 16 I would expect an appropriate adult to be present in the house also).

I revised Homer with him, and he helped me significantly with all the material and commentaries he provided, let alone the practical tips and inside info about academic studies.
