Portfolio reviews for BA and MA photography applications with an RCA graduated artist and photographer

Sara really helped me to improve my MA application for the RCA. She gave me valuable advice and pointers on how I could make my application more in depth and specific to my own practise and more cohesive in general. She also gave really clear suggestions about how I could frame my work to fit a narrative that complies with the specifications of the course.

Sara’s way of explaining concepts was clear and in-depth, which made it easy for me to grasp the principles in a professional manner. Her teaching of visualization principles had a significant impact on developing my skills. Her unique style of explanation and content organization helped me understand every detail of this field in a professional way.

Sara has given me the most Valuable help to date in my photographic career. I know I will be signing up to many more packages of lessons with Sara as I am so happy with the way she teaches. I met Sara at the Royal College of Art, where both of us studied photography, and it was very clear to me from the beginning that she was incredibly talented in photography and arts. The first time we worked together, we organised and curated exhibitions at uni and as a final we also worked together on the final graduate exhibition closely with the tutors. Sara’s remarkable talent in organising and keeping a clear and open work environment invites not only her environment to join safely but also give space for learning and evolving. She has a very good eye for composition, textures, colours and narratives, and most of all she has depth and strength in her work. Her work is layered, skilled and substantial, and she will without a doubt ask you to look into your photography from many different angles and challenge your view and idea of photography. Sara is, in my opinion, an outstanding artist, who is incredibly skilled in passing on knowledge, theory and passion. I often have long conversations with her concerning complex art theoretical questions from which I have learned a lot. Sara also works in the field of fashion photography and editorials, which makes her technically skilled and well-rounded in studio photography, BTS and documentation of fittings and shows. This also contributes to her eye for composition and the directness of her work.

Besides Sara’s photographic skills, I want to underline her impeccable teaching skills and her ability to translate complex theoretical and philosophical topics into engaging conversations that enlighten and challenge. I have learned a lot from her and can only recommend her as a teacher.

Sara is the best if you wanna learn photography, who’s familiar with both analogue photography and digital photography. I do learn a lot from basic techniques to making creative works with photography. And as a tutor, she’s very patient and good at guiding me think about different masterpieces and relate it to my idea and works.

Sara is patient, passionate and inspiring.
Her eye and knowledge extends beyond photography. Through a series of crits and classes she allowed me to conceive my body of work in a new way and inspired me to produce a shit ton of photos I’m proud of.

Sara is an incredible teacher as well as an incredible photographer. Not only does she have the ability to share knowledge and understanding but she also manages to share a passion and appreciation for photography which goes a long way in encouraging students. The feedback and vision she is able to give alone are worthwhile as she is able to clearly communicate how one is able to improve and continue on improving in a way that’s both insightful and stimulating.
