About Watosin
My piano teaching philosophy is built on the belief that music has the power to transform lives. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced player, my aim is to meet you where you are and help you grow in a way that’s both structured and soulful. I teach foundational skills—posture, fingering, reading music, rhythm precision—with close attention to detail and adaptability based on the student’s learning style. But I also go beyond the page. Students are invited to explore composition, lead their own song choices, and bring personal meaning into their playing.
A teenage student once came to me only wanting to play by ear, and rather than steer them away from that, we built a curriculum that married ear training with notation literacy, giving them access to the best of both worlds. I encourage students to see themselves not just as players but as musicians—curious, expressive, and constantly evolving. I use reflective exercises, performance journaling, and recording playbacks to help students assess and appreciate their own growth. Each lesson is a balance of discipline and discovery, rooted in respect and patience. I also include discussions of musical context—who wrote the piece, what time period it came from, how it fits into the broader history of music—which fosters a deeper connection to repertoire. Whether your goal is to perform, write your own music, or simply enjoy playing for yourself, I’m here to help you reach it with clarity, confidence, and joy.

I approach piano teaching with a commitment to cultivating both skill and passion in every student. I believe that learning an instrument is a journey that combines structured practice, creative exploration, and emotional connection. My lessons emphasise foundational skills such as proper technique, rhythm, sight-reading, and ear training, but always within the context of engaging repertoire chosen to inspire each student. I integrate music theory and improvisation in a practical way that helps students make sense of what they are playing and encourages personal expression. I also prioritise building effective practice habits and maintaining motivation through achievable goals and regular progress assessments. Technology is a valuable resource in my teaching—I use recording, digital tools, and interactive exercises to provide immediate feedback and keep lessons dynamic. A highlight from my teaching career was supporting a student through the transition from beginner to intermediate levels, watching their confidence and artistry flourish. Ultimately, my goal is to help students develop a well-rounded musicianship and a genuine joy for playing piano that lasts a lifetime.
