About Nicole

A graduate of the Humber College Jazz Degree program (Vocal Performance major) and the Royal Conservatory of Music (Piano Performance), Nicole has been singing, playing piano and composing music for over 30 years.
Some of her musical experience includes studying Classical Piano at the University of Toronto under Marietta Orlov and Boris Lysenko, as well as performing with the Macmillan Singers and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Growing up singing in choirs and musical theatre productions, as well as participating in piano competitions, Nicole explored her musical curiosities in her 20s by singing and playing in eclectic bands and performance venues.
Now, Nicole is focused on teaching, composing and producing music, while keeping a balance with nature and family.

Perfect! My husband and I are adult beginners and had our piano lesson with Nicole. She is a very nice, patient, and practical. In our 1st lesson, to help us understand her teaching method and style, she spent most of the hour teaching practical lessons and practiced them with us. She made the 1st lesson very useful even though it was free. We really enjoyed it and are continuing with her. I strongly recommend her for piano lessons.

Nicole and I met when she was a student of mine at Humber College in Toronto. Her outstanding musicality and ability to navigate challenging material became immediately apparent to me in the jazz improvisation class I was teaching. As well I became aware of her impressive performance skills as a pianist, vocalist and composer. Nicole is an excellent communicator with a warm, engaging manner who meets people where they are and helps them to feel relaxed and at ease. She possesses a combination of musicianship, personality and clarity of expression that would make her a perfect choice as a teacher for any level or age of student and I'm happy to recommend her!

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
My Grandma played the piano by ear, and when I was a baby, she used to hold me on her lap while she was playing. I've had a deep-rooted passion for piano ever since. I started singing in my church choir, and that sparked my love of singing. I started writing songs at 11, and that's when I decided to pursue music for the rest of my life
What makes you passionate about your subject?
I am passionate about music because it is my safe place, the thing that makes me feel connected to the world, and to my inner world too.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
I am a Superprof because I believe that people can achieve anything they put their mind to! I encourage, support and coach people to build consistency to reach their musical goals. I love to watch people achieve their goals.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.
My role model is my Mom, because she taught me how to weather the storms of life with grace and compassion. She also taught me to work hard, to achieve the results I want.
What are your keys to success?
My keys to success are consistency, curiosity, having fun and being open to growth. In music and in life!
