About Darius

Hello! My name's Darius & I'm a piano, clarinet & recorder teacher based in Cardiff! I teach piano at Cowbridge Comprehensive School and Ferndale Community School alongside private pupils, and I also work as a professional accompanist. I have 15 years of teaching experience, and love sharing the joy of music with others! I have also worked as a professional clarinettist with orchestras such as BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera, and have both a Bachelor of Music and Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. I look forward to helping you pursue your dream of being able to play music!

About the lesson

Since starting my Postgraduate course at music college in 2010 I have pursued a passion of spreading classical music to others through teaching. I have been teaching piano at Cowbridge Comprehensive School and Ferndale Community School for the past 3 years. I also have 15 years' experience teaching clarinet, piano, saxophone, recorder and theory privately to all ages, from 5 to 75. I am very flexible with how the pupil enjoys learning music & try to work out the best solution for each individual. The majority of my pupils take ABRSM exams once they have reached the requisite standard, but I also teach people who are learning just for fun! All ages & standards are welcome, and I am more than happy to work on whichever styles my pupils prefer, be it classical, pop, jazz, or film tunes! I provide a broad teaching curriculum, focusing on developing technique, musicality, scales, theory & aural simultaneously, to encourage the development of the pupil not just as an instrumental player but as a musician. This provides a solid base for them to then progress easily from. Every lesson focuses on a variety of styles of repertoire, music fundamentals, and development work tailored to each pupil. I always encourage pupils to take an active role in their choice of repertoire. I truly believe everyone can learn an instrument & experience the joy of making music!
