About Marco
I’m Marco, a software engineer and physicist with a Master’s degree in Quantum Information from Sapienza University of Rome. I spent over six years working professionally as a backend developer, mainly in Java and Groovy, building and maintaining enterprise-grade systems. I now work as a Research Assistant at the University of Cambridge, applying software and data analysis skills to neuroscience and medical research.
I have solid experience in Java, Go, Python, and C — languages I’ve used in both academic and professional contexts. I’m especially passionate about clean code, software craftsmanship, and helping others develop a deeper understanding of programming beyond just syntax. My teaching approach is focused on making complex programming concepts accessible, engaging, and relevant to real-world development. While I specialise in Java, I also offer lessons in Python, Go, and C — all with the same commitment to clarity and depth.
I prioritise building a strong grasp of core programming principles. Rather than memorising syntax, you’ll learn how to think through problems, understand what’s happening under the hood, and write clean, maintainable code. I break down abstract ideas into manageable steps and use real-world examples to show how theory applies in practice — whether it’s designing a REST API, structuring a project, or debugging a tricky bug.
Each 60-minute lesson is structured around three phases: a quick review of the previous session, a deep dive into new material, and a hands-on coding segment where you actively apply what you’ve learned. I’ll give you tailored challenges at the end of each lesson to reinforce key concepts and prepare you for the next session.
My lessons are suitable for all levels — from complete beginners to junior software engineers looking to strengthen their foundation or move into more advanced topics like concurrency, design patterns, or microservices. With over six years of experience as a backend developer and my current role in academic research, I bring a dual perspective that connects solid engineering practice with thoughtful problem-solving.
