About Sofia
My original career as a physical therapist gave me a genuinely clinical understanding of rehabilitation principles that I eventually applied specifically to helping pianists recover from strain and injury. That medical background shapes a uniquely careful patient teaching approach built on real rehabilitation science rather than only standard piano pedagogy. I pursued additional musical training specifically to combine both clinical and musical expertise into a genuinely specialized practice most piano teachers simply cannot offer. Students who come to me are often recovering from hand strain or returning after time away and specifically need that clinical careful approach to rebuilding technique safely. I maintain connections with medical professionals including hand specialists and occupational therapists to make sure my teaching stays genuinely coordinated with any broader treatment a student needs. Fourteen years and five hundred fifty-five students later, nothing satisfies me more than helping a student who thought their playing days were over rediscover a genuinely healthy sustainable technique.

My clinical background as a physical therapist shapes a teaching approach specifically suited to students recovering from hand or wrist strain or returning to piano after injury or a long absence. Every new student receives a careful assessment of current physical condition before we build any exercise program the same clinical intake process I would use with any rehabilitation client. Exercises are introduced gradually and conservatively at first prioritizing safe recovery over rapid progress since rushing rehabilitation almost always causes genuine setbacks. I teach students to recognize the difference between productive challenge and harmful strain using the same body awareness principles I once taught in clinical physical therapy settings. Recovery based hand and wrist exercises appear regularly especially early in our work together since rebuilding after strain requires patience most standard piano training simply does not address. I coordinate directly with medical providers when appropriate ensuring my teaching approach stays consistent with any broader treatment plan a student may be following. This clinically informed rehabilitative approach specifically serves students recovering from hand injury or strain who need genuinely careful patient guidance back toward healthy sustainable playing.
