About Ollie

Hi! My name is Oliver Cullimore - last year I completed my Masters Degree in The Philosophy and History of Science, and I'm looking to help others navigate their way through the complicated and fascinating world of Philosophy! I have little experience with classroom teaching - my strengths lie in 1 to 1 help. I am capable of assisting with any aspect of your Philosophy degree - from essay writing techniques, to explaining some of the more obscure or tricky concepts in easy to digest language!

During my degree I gave multiple lectures, and provided undergraduates with 1 to 1 tuition regularly. Because of the time I have spent in a variety of Philosophy departments in different universities, I have a very broad knowledge of the general curriculum of Philosophy as it is taught today. Whether you need help getting into the Ancient Greeks, discovering Nietzsche, or arguing Political Theory, I can help!

I am also a private developmental editor and essay writing tutor - I can help you structure and format your essays effectively. Having written 70+ essays in my time as a student and lecturer I have an excellent understanding of what it takes to write an interesting, well-researched and highly graded dissertation or thesis. Both my undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations received the highest grade possible.

About the lesson

Generally, I am looking for students undertaking Philosophy from A level through to degree level. After an initial chat to outline what aspects of the subject matter are required, I will tailor a set of lessons designed to bring you up to speed. This could include a back and forth on essay writing technique, a set of alternative readings which we can go through together, a simple discussion, or practice answering essay questions! I am very flexible with my style of teaching - generally my experience has been best in a fairly informal setting. I love to talk and explain philosophy to people, and this usually results in a fairly casual communication designed to provoke genuine interest in the subject matter - critical for truly grasping difficult concepts!
