About Bethany
I have graduated from the University of Oxford this year and am starting a PhD in Bristol. After achieving 8 A*s and 3 As in my GCSEs, I then went on to receive A levels in psychology (A), biology (A) and English literature (A*). I am now tutoring students who are eager to improve their understanding of Psychology, see a real improvement in their grades, and who would like to gain a passion for the subject and become inspired.
I’ve delivered over 100 session of tutoring online. Over the summer, I worked with an A level student who gained a huge amount of confidence. We tailored each session to her needs, taking time to discuss her preferred methods of learning, and set achievable short term and long term goals. With this in mind, I planned each session accordingly, and she found herself improved in many areas.

My teaching method is entirely student-centred, with an emphasis on goal-oriented learning. A crucial part of my time with the student is our first hour together, which we spend discussing their preferred approach to learning. They will have their own goals in mind, which may be the grade they want at the end of the term, or something more personal to do with their approach to work. Either way, this informs how I plan our sessions.
I like to prepare my own resources based on what the student would like a focus on. This means that we can be doing very different things each week. Previously, the student has sent me specific questions from their lessons or reading a few days in advanced. I then prepare answers, often which involve dynamic diagrams and time for discussion. I have found that testing, and retesting, is the most efficient (and often fun!) way of solidifying information. Most importantly, I always make time to check understanding through past exam questions.
A one hour session may be structured as follows:
30 mins - answering prepared questions using whiteboard/pre-prepared presentation and time for discussion, more questions.
20 mins - exam questions - writing/discussing our own, looking over exemplar answers.
10 mins - summary quiz - fun fast paced quiz to confirm knowledge and time for any last discussion.
