About Margie

I earned my PhD in American Literature from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2022, and I'm a Bilinski Fellowship recipient with published scholarship in Western American Literature. But that's just one chapter in a multi-faceted life that includes being an accomplished artist and business owner. I believe you already have the ideas. My job is to help you find them. Before earning my PhD, I was an artist and entrepreneur—which means I understand that intellectual work doesn't exist in a vacuum. I know what it's like to reinvent yourself, to follow dreams even as they evolve, to bring multiple perspectives to the table. If you're an international student who feels like you're being asked to fit a Western academic mold that doesn't honor who you are—I get it. And I can help. My work bridges film studies and photography, creative and academic writing, editing and revision, and interdisciplinary research. I've mentored students through dissertations, theses, research papers, and application essays. But more importantly, I've helped them stay true to themselves while succeeding in institutional academia. This isn't just tutoring. It's intellectual companionship for students who refuse to think in cookie-cutter ways.

About the lesson

I work holistically—combining rigorous academic skills with personal growth and authentic expression. Think of it as intellectual midwifery: I help you birth ideas you didn't know you had, while also teaching you to "speak academic" fluently enough to succeed.

Our sessions are collaborative. We'll work on:

• Research methodology and thesis development

• Academic writing that preserves your unique perspective

• Editing and revision with attention to both structure and voice

• Navigating the gap between what you want to say and what academia expects

• Building confidence in your unconventional thinking

I tailor every session to your specific needs—whether that's dissertation support, essay coaching, or simply having someone who understands that doing meaningful work in academia requires protecting your soul while playing the game well enough to win.
