About Jon

I am an academic researcher and humanities tutor with a strong interest in languages, history, politics and ideas. My background includes advanced research in international politics and modern history, alongside experience communicating complex subjects clearly and thoughtfully to different audiences.

I have a particular passion for helping students move beyond memorisation towards genuine understanding and intellectual confidence. Whether preparing for examinations, improving essay-writing skills or developing fluency in German, I aim to create lessons that are rigorous, encouraging and adapted to the individual student.

I work with GCSE, A Level, undergraduate and adult learners, and I welcome students of different abilities and backgrounds. Patience, clarity and mutual respect are very important to me as a tutor.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to the needs, interests and confidence level of each student. I aim not only to improve grades and examination performance, but also to help students develop genuine understanding, intellectual curiosity and independent thinking.

In language lessons, I focus on building confidence in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension through structured conversation, close attention to grammar and vocabulary, and engagement with authentic material where appropriate. In History, Politics and Religious Studies, I emphasise clear argumentation, analytical thinking, essay structure and the ability to connect ideas across topics and periods.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, though longer sessions can be arranged for exam preparation or more advanced study. I teach GCSE, A Level, undergraduate and adult learners, including students seeking enrichment beyond the curriculum.

My academic background includes advanced research in international politics and history, alongside professional experience communicating complex ideas clearly and accessibly. I understand that every student learns differently, and I aim to create a calm, encouraging and intellectually engaging environment in which students can grow in confidence as well as ability.
