About Hannah

Hi! My name is Hannah and I am an experienced tutor and educator of 10 years. I have a PhD in Archaeology from one of the top universities in the world (UCL) and am enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge and skills with others. I am a specialist in African pottery, and this research interest was sparked by a love of travel, the decorative arts and a desire to learn about and experience different cultures.

Having achieved an undergraduate, masters and PhD from UCL and through now working as an academic, I have a thorough understanding of and extensive experience in university admissions and academic writing. Whist undertaking my PhD I taught within undergraduate and masters courses and provided one-on-one sessions for students requiring advice on essay writing. In 2022 I was accepted as an associate fellow of the higher education academy (HEA), which is awarded for proficiency and experience in teaching in higher education.

Additionally, I coordinate and teach summer schools for 16-17 year olds interested in applying for university, and work with students who wish to improve their English before undertaking a degree in the UK.

I also tutored English and Maths (to GCSE level) at a private tutoring company (Explore Learning) for 5 - 16 year olds, which included 11+ preparation classes.

I am available to tutor on English up to GCSE, as well as to work with students on university applications, essay writing skills, exam preparation. I aim to help my students to develop critical thinking, understand the basics of effective, clear and persuasive writing, and to help build academic confidence.

In my lessons I like to create a safe and supportive environment where my students are comfortable to ask questions and explore their potential.

About the lesson

I am an experienced academic with a PhD in Archaeology who has taught and tutored students ranging from 5 years old to adults. I tutor English up to GCSE, and run sessions to help with essay writing, critical thinking and university applications for older students. My lessons are between one and a half to two hours long and are tailored to the specific needs and interests of the students. I believe in a wholistic approach that helps students develop the skills and knowledge to succeed in their academic endeavours.
