About Uttam
I began my teaching career during my undergraduate studies, driven by a passion for helping students develop a strong foundation in science. From the very beginning, my focus has been on building conceptual understanding rather than encouraging rote memorization. I believe that a solid grasp of fundamental principles enables students to excel in higher studies and develop confidence in problem-solving. It is rewarding to see that many of my former students have gone on to pursue engineering, while others are studying geosciences and related disciplines at reputed institutions. Their success continues to inspire my commitment to making science engaging, accessible, and meaningful for every learner.

I am a researcher in Earth Sciences, and I’m deeply interested in understanding climate change and the natural processes that shape the northwestern Himalayan region. My main area of work is dendrochronology, which is the study of tree rings. By looking at annual growth rings in trees, we can reconstruct past climate conditions and understand environmental changes that go far beyond the period of direct weather records.
Working in the Himalaya—one of the youngest and most active mountain ranges in the world—has given me a strong appreciation of how its geology, tectonics, landforms, and climate are all closely connected. Every field experience adds something new to my understanding of this complex and fascinating region.
I also really enjoy teaching and sharing what I know with students. I try to make geology easier to understand by breaking down concepts in a clear and engaging way, so students can build a strong foundation. I offer tuition in various geology subjects, including physical geology, geomorphology, structural geology, environmental geology, palaeoclimatology, climate change, and Earth system science, for school, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels.
