About Jessi

I have 14 years of experience in teaching and education which inform my teaching style and professionalism. My career began with a passion for storytelling and has evolved to help others better tell their own stories and achieve their goals. I have worked in customer service and marketing roles alongside my education and creative career, which has given me the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I thrive on engaging with new people and using my skills to help them find their own true passions. My work as a professional playwright, dramaturg, and screenwriter allows me to have a creative lens when approaching my teaching. My interdisciplinary academic experiences, however, give me the skill to assist students with a range of interests outside of arts and humanities. I am also experienced in helping students with diverse learning needs, such as neurodiversity, to hone their individual strengths and build an educational system that is right for them.

About the lesson

I take a student-centred approach to teaching and pedagogy. Understanding the student's prior knowledge alongside their learning goals helps me to structure a plan that best serves the student as an individual. I have worked internationally across public and private education with 12-18s teaching English, Drama, and TEFL courses. I am therefore familiar with diverse starting points for lessons. I have lectured in English, Creative Writing, and Drama across BA and MA courses in the UK at institutions such as University College Oxford and Birkbeck, University of London. This has given me the ability to teach across entry and advanced material in these subjects, as well as fostering critical thinking and writing skills in students across disciplines. I also have experience with US and UK university settings and have a secondary specialisation in application writing, statements of purpose, and academic CV help. I have worked for the National Trust and for high-level Artists and Illustrators in marketing and copywriting, so am able to provide support for students looking to apply for internships and apprenticeships in creative and heritage industries. I am open to tutoring ages 12 and up with an emphasis on English and Drama for subject specific lessons, as well as providing CV and early career support to those looking to attend university or apply for internships. I am based in Berkshire near Reading, but am willing to travel if transport costs are covered outside of a 7 mile radius. I am also confident in giving online lessons.

I met Jessi whilst training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and have since collaborated with her as a writer/ performer and a workshop leader at University College, Oxford, Oxford Playhouse, Farnham Maltings, and Camden People's Theatre.

Jessi is a great director and teacher that focuses on creating a safer space in order to push the limits of your creative ability. She developed my skills from being a shy writer to a confident performer of my own work which led me to touring a one-person show across fringe venues.

Jessi's in-depth knowledge of different performance practices and down-to-Earth style make her a fantastic leader in the field. Whether you need help as a writer, director, performer, and/ or deviser, you can be confident that you're in great hands. I highly recommend Jessi whether you have no experience or have previously trained in theatre.
