As a math department head at a local high school for over 20 years as well as a math teacher, Sophie is one of my students' teachers that I am extremely impressed with. Her teaching practices, knowledge of the curriculum and ability to inspire students is outstanding.

Over the years I’ve spent in school, I’ve had my fair share of good and bad teachers. With that being said, I have never cared about a teacher enough to write them a letter, though I’m thankful for what they’ve taught me, I never thought I needed to. But Sophie is different. Never have had a teacher treat their students with as much support, kindness, respect, and equality as you had. And I feel like I haven’t properly shown her the appreciation and thanks she deserves for what she has done in the time she was my teacher, and there is no way I can leave it that way. Despite how some of our class behaved, she constantly throughout the year treated us with genuine respect and kindness. Just this one simple thing made a huge difference for me, Because of how she was willing to trust me to do work on my own, I was able to work at my own pace, and produce some of the best work I think I’ve ever produced, something that restored my faith in myself that I really can do a good job, and that I can be smart. Along with this, she's gone specifically out of her way multiple times to do fun and kind things for us, from how she would have conversations with the girls in the class like their friend to how she gave us a party using money out of her own pocket. Just one simple “thank you” via email is nowhere near enough to express how thankful I am for how she has treated me and the class, and it’s so sad that we can’t have her for any longer. This note has gone through many different rewritings to make it perfect, so please know that she is an amazing teacher, arguably the best, and she deserves so much more than she receives.
