About Bhavya
Hi, I'm Bhavya — a mom of two based in Bothell, WA with a background in software engineering and a genuine love for helping young kids build confidence in math and English.
I specialize in working with elementary-age students (K–5) who need a patient, encouraging presence — whether that's a child who gets frustrated with numbers, a young reader who needs help sounding out words, or a kid who just needs someone to slow down and explain things a different way.
What I bring to each session:
• Arithmetic and number sense (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions)
• Word problems — breaking them into steps so they feel manageable, not scary
• Reading comprehension and vocabulary for early readers
• Spoken English — pronunciation, fluency, and confidence for kids still building comfort with the language
I'm used to explaining complex things in simple ways (it's a big part of my professional background), and I genuinely enjoy the "aha!" moment when something finally clicks for a child.
Sessions are warm, low-pressure, and completely tailored to your child's pace. I'm happy to coordinate with parents on what's being taught at school so we can reinforce — not replace — what your child is already learning.

Every session starts with a quick check-in — I ask your child what felt confusing or hard since we last met, so we're always working on what actually matters to them, not just a generic curriculum.
From there, sessions are a mix of short explanations, working through problems together, and letting your child try on their own while I watch where they get stuck. I don't just correct mistakes — I try to understand *why* the mistake happened, because that's where the real learning is.
A few things I keep in mind with young learners:
• I keep sessions moving — 5–7 minutes per activity, then we switch things up
• I never make a child feel bad for not knowing something
• I celebrate small wins out loud, because confidence is half the battle at this age
• I check in with parents briefly after each session so you always know what we worked on and what to watch for at home
Sessions are online via Wyzant's platform, so no commute needed. I recommend 45–60 minute sessions for K–3, and up to 60 minutes for grades 4–5.
