About Chris
My approach to computer training is all about learning by doing - helping you to learn new skills and techniques on your computer, smartphone or tablet by getting you to try them yourself.
There are no textbooks to read or videos to watch – instead, I'll build your understanding of each topic from the ground up, explaining the purpose of the technique, demonstrating the technique and why it works step-by-step, and then getting you to have a go at doing it on your own.
You’ll be encouraged and supported to experiment and play around with your device to find out what various features do. By doing this, you’ll develop an instinctive feel for how your device works and be able to work out how to do things on your own, so when something goes wrong or you’re unsure what to do, you don’t panic but instead resolve the situation with confidence.
Previous students have described me as patient, kind and calming, and you'll be treated in exactly the same way.
We'll go back to basics as far as we need to, and go through a topic as slowly as we need to, until it clicks, with no shame or judgement.
With my guidance and support, you'll hopefully feel like you’ve been using your computer, smartphone or tablet independently for years and like you know exactly what you’re doing - because you actually do.
My credentials:
- 10 years' professional experience working as a statistician for a major UK company, using computers at an advanced level daily for reporting, communication and analysis
- First-class BSc degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Warwick
- Enhanced DBS certificate and registered with the DBS Update Service

A typical session with me goes like this:
- I'll introduce a topic and explain why it’s useful and what problems it solves.
- I’ll take you through all of the relevant features and buttons and what they do, so you know exactly what’s going on.
- We’ll go through and practice the key techniques step-by-step – the focus here is very much on getting you to try these yourself, rather than me just showing you them!
- I'll get you to try some exercises to practice the techniques on your own.
- We'll go through what you've done - if you do make a mistake, I’ll explain it in a supportive way and show you how to approach the task differently next time,
With this approach, your understanding of your device and your skillset will develop naturally over time.
Your sessions will be tailored to suit your goals, focusing on the areas you most need help with and the skills you need to develop to be able to do what you want to do with your computer, smartphone or tablet.
I'll also give you some practice exercises on the topic we've covered for you to try away from the session - it's important that you work hard at these, as the only way to get good with technology is to use it.
Your first free 30-minute session will be a consultation to allow us to get to know each other and allow you to explain where you're currently at with using computers, smartphones or tablets, what your goals are and what you need help with, so that I can then explain how I can help and create a plan for your sessions.
Reviews
All the reviews collected from students are verified by our team. They are therefore reliable and correspond to a real experience with Chris.
Perfect! Chris is fantastic teacher. Kind caring and very calming. Has helped me no end and continues to do so.
He always punctual and has taught me a lot in the short time we have been working together- I'm really enjoying teaching Tanya. She is attentive and receptive to the content we're covering in our sessions, gets the hang of the techniques we cover quickly, and actively engages in the sessions, asking questions and trying things out for herself.Chris's response :
At the start, Tanya explained very clearly what she needed help with, her situation and what she needs to be able to do, which has been extremely helpful to me as her tutor as it has made it easy for me to determine which topics we need to cover and to plan out her sessions.
Overall, Tanya has been a fantastic student so far and I'm confident that she'll make great progress as we go through our sessions.
