About Joanne

Hello! My name is Jo, and I am a dedicated Wits Medical School student with strong experience in tutoring Afrikaans from primary school through to matric. I understand that Afrikaans can feel challenging for many students, which is why I focus on clear explanations, structured lessons, and a patient teaching style that helps students feel confident and supported. My background in medical studies has strengthened my communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to simplify complex information—skills that translate directly into the way I teach Afrikaans. I work carefully with each student to understand their needs, whether they require help with grammar, comprehension, creative writing, or exam preparation. Professionalism is extremely important to me. I arrive prepared, organized, and committed to creating a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions and grow at their own pace. My lessons are tailored, interactive, and designed to help students build strong foundations and achieve meaningful improvement. Whether you are looking to catch up, strengthen your Afrikaans, or aim for higher marks, I am here to guide you with encouragement, clarity, and consistent support. About the lesson

My approach to Afrikaans tutoring is focused on building understanding, confidence, and practical language skills. I believe that Afrikaans becomes far easier when it is taught in a clear, structured, and engaging way. What makes me unique as a tutor is my ability to break down difficult grammar, comprehension, and writing concepts into simple steps, while adapting each lesson to the student’s individual learning style.
I am proficient in English and teach Afrikaans using a combination of English explanations and Afrikaans practice. This helps students understand the content clearly while gradually becoming more comfortable using Afrikaans independently.
In a typical lesson, students can expect a calm, patient, and supportive environment. We will revise key concepts, work through examples together, practise using exam-style questions, and focus on strengthening grammar, creative writing, transactional writing, and comprehension skills. I also provide personalised feedback to help students improve steadily and confidently.
My lessons are aimed at students from primary school up to matric who want to improve their Afrikaans marks, strengthen their foundations, or build more confidence in understanding and using the language. Whether a student is struggling, catching up, or aiming for top results, I tailor each session to help them achieve their personal goals.
