About Georgina
I'm a first year undergraduate student at the University of Durham, studying psychology, alongside a maths module. I enjoy both thoroughly! I mean, you have to enjoy maths a lot to take it at university level, trust me! I received an A* in A Level Psychology, and an A in mathematics, so I'm highly confident in my ability and be reassured that I have a good grasp of the A Level content. It's still fresh in my mind, and I have extended it this year during my degree. I volunteered to tutor maths in Sixth Form, while I was in second year, so I have experience in this field. I was also the leader of the Psychology society at my Sixth Form, so I occasionally taught new concepts to the year below during those sessions.
I consider myself to be patient, understanding and intelligent. I love teaching, which is not surprising considering I have two younger sisters, who I always help. I hope to be a teacher one day, helping young people in secondary school to enjoy their studies more.

I understand the importance of each person learning in the style that benefits them most. I take a very sequential approach to tutoring, and the first step of my lessons would be to assess what learning style my tutee has. I think a good icebreaker is for the student to take a learning style quiz, so I can understand how they learn best.
I place a lot of emphasis on active learning, and want the student to be the most active part in their studies. My teaching method is organised and I would aim to plan lessons around the syllabus. I would let my student rate bits of the syllabus based on how easy they find them, and we would work around that. We would progress through the syllabus at whatever rate they were comfortable with. If they were really struggling, I would always start out with a lesson-style explanation of the ins and outs of a topic. I believe practice is the best method of achieving well in maths, so a maths tutor session would involve a lot of practice questions, where I would guide them through and explain the problems. As for psychology, it can be a lot of pressure to dive straight into a question so I think its important to outline the content and have a discussion with them about it to ensure they fully understand, before moving onto questions.
Teaching is not a one-size-fits-all situation, so I would make sure to discuss whether my style suits the student. I think YouTube videos can be an excellent alternative for students who are visual learners, as well as making mind maps. If they were auditory learners, I would adapt it to be more lesson-style and explain the questions myself.
Overall, I would organise each session so that we know exactly what we'll be doing each time, and I'll also prepare a PowerPoint with the main tasks and so forth.
