About Christie

I'm a law student, who grew up playing the piano, but eventually quit because my own piano teacher was incredibly strict, and I lost any pre-existing love for the instrument. I took a 5 year hiatus from playing the piano, never thinking that I would pick it back up again.
However, in 2021, I restarted, and started playing it on my own terms. It was really difficult, because relearning how to read music is not dissimilar to learning a language - even if it is one that you were familiar with.
On my own, I spent countless hours, relearning, and finding that I didn't hate the instrument, but rather the way I was taught in a cold, strict, repetitive manner.
I love playing now, on my own terms, and I would like to be a better person than my own teacher was to me, to any student of mine if I'm given a chance.

About the lesson

I'm a 21 year old international student based in London, who reclaimed her love for music. My lessons will be flexible, and focused around the student depending on their experience with the instrument. My official grade is Grade 6 on the piano, but I can play Grade 8 level pieces (my favorite composers to play are Chopin and Debussy).

I have tutored a friend who had never learnt the instrument before, and I found it to be a really valuable experience for the both of us. I have tutored other friends in English, math, geography, etc, but I feel that as someone who has really learnt patience and happiness in playing an instrument, and the whole process of it, it would be really rewarding to show someone and have them experience the same thing.

I'm fluent in both English and mandarin, and I'd be really grateful if you would trust me enough to teach you, your kid, or anyone in your life.
