About Monica
I have always been drawn to storytelling and the different ways people use art to explore the world around them. For me, English Literature is one of the most powerful forms of artistic expression because it allows us to enter different perspectives, question our understanding of the world and discover meanings that can change depending on how we read a text.
My own relationship with literature became particularly significant when I studied John Keats at A-Level. His poetry introduced me to the complexity and ambiguity that I love about literature, and encouraged me to look beyond simply understanding what a poem says and instead ask why it affects us, what it might mean and how different interpretations can exist alongside one another. Studying Keats played an important role in my decision to continue studying English. His work also deepened my appreciation of nature and the ways it can inspire artistic expression, something I carried with me during the nine months I spent living in Japan, where I solo climbed Mount Fuji this summer.
My interests in literature and art extend beyond the texts I studied in school. I achieved an A in A-Level English Literature, a Grade 8 in GCSE English Literature and an A* in my 5,000-word EPQ, an independent research project in which I explored how the microgenre of Vaporwave has influenced modern digital art and music. I am now preparing to begin studying English and Film at university, where I hope to continue developing both my academic and creative interests.
Alongside my studies, I am an aspiring filmmaker and recently wrote and directed my first short film while living in Japan, where I also had the opportunity to shadow a Japanese film producer. My interest in literature has strongly influenced the way I approach filmmaking, with many of my own film ideas and screenplays exploring questions and themes I have encountered through literature, particularly morality, human experience and the emotional power of artistic expression. Film has become my own form of artistic expression and a way for me to explore and communicate thoughts and feelings inspired by the art and literature I encounter.
I am a new tutor, but I am genuinely excited to share my enthusiasm for literature with other students. I want to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas and developing their own relationship with the texts they study. Above all, I want students to discover that English Literature can be something to be curious about and enjoy, as well as something they can succeed in academically.

I am truly passionate about English Literature, and I believe it is one of the most powerful forms of art that expresses ideas and feelings that transcend time. My aim as a tutor is not simply to teach students how to memorise quotations or follow a formula for achieving high marks, but to help them genuinely engage with literature and learn to think critically and independently about what they read.
My lessons will focus heavily on developing strong analytical and critical-thinking skills which can be applied to different texts and poems, not just the ones being studied. I will encourage students to ask questions of a text, challenge their first interpretations and understand that literature is not always about finding one “correct” answer. I want students to become confident in forming, expressing and defending their own ideas.
I am particularly passionate about poetry and the work of John Keats. I understand that poetry can initially feel difficult or abstract, so I aim to make challenging texts more accessible without losing their complexity. Rather than approaching poems only at a surface level, I will help students explore deeper meanings, ideas, context, language, form and literary techniques, while developing the confidence to form their own interpretations.
Alongside literary analysis, I will provide practical support with essay writing and exam technique. This includes developing clear arguments, integrating quotations and contextual knowledge effectively, analysing language and form, structuring essays and learning how to write effectively within the time available.
My lessons will typically last 1–2 hours and will be personally tailored to each student's level, texts, goals and areas for development. I primarily teach GCSE and A-Level English Literature, particularly supporting students who want to develop their understanding of poetry, essay writing and analytical skills.
Most importantly, I want students to leave my lessons not simply knowing more about a poem or text, but feeling that they have discovered something within it for themselves. Literature should be more than a collection of words to memorise for an examination; it is art, and I want to help students learn how to engage with it deeply and confidently.
