About Nicole

I finished school in 2015 where my initial years out of school were used for following my passion for music. I completed my Bachelor of Education in 2021 and my Honours degree in Inclusive Education in 2022. During my years of studies I developed a deep passion for learning and language. Being able to effectively communicate with meaning is a personal philosophy of mine, which I carry into the classroom.

I have coached water polo at a Cape Town school from 2016-2021, following that I gained some experience working for a tutoring company during 2022. During my Bachelor of Education degree I did internship and practical work at four different types of South African schools (one of them being online teaching during 2020) which broadened my knowledge and understanding of learner backgrounds.

I have a background in singing which has helped me use singing techniques to assist with pronunciation. I was born in Switzerland and moved to South Africa when I was 8, which has allowed me to develop a neutral international accent. I am a very patient teacher and will spend plenty of time working on speaking with fluency and confidence

About the lesson

Our lessons will be fun, engaging and entertaining! I prefer a classroom where the learners are doing lots of the talking. My teaching philosophy is based in Existentialism, which allows me to create tailor made lessons assessed on your needs.

A typical lesson will start with some chit-chat, what we will be doing during the lesson (the goals of the lesson), followed by some instruction of many fun and engaging activities. We will then complete the activities, where I will give you feedback. To round off the lesson, we will see if we reached those goals. At the end of the lesson, I will give you a small task to complete at home so that we can assess if you retained what you learned during out lesson.

What sets me apart from other teachers is my patience, energy and passion for life long learning. There will never be a dull moment in our classes! Your interests and needs are a value and asset in my mind and will be prioritised from the initial lesson.

These lessons are tailored for older students (12 and above) who want to focus on speaking with confidence and fluency in English.
