About Zara

I am a PhD student at Oxford, with a first-class BSc in biomedical science from the University of Warwick and a research Master’s at University College London. I have extensive experience and success with a range of academic applications, detailed below. Degrees: I received offers from 100% of the Master’s programmes to which I applied. I was shortlisted (interviewed) for 8 competitive PhD programmes (Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, KCL, and Warwick). For every 3 applications I completed, I received 2 offers. These were fully-funded PhD programmes at Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, and Warwick. I accepted an offer from the most competitive PhD programme at the University of Oxford (by number of applicants per place in 2023). I also won the departmental studentship competition, receiving full funding from my department for all 4 years of my programme. Internships: During my BSc, I completed 2 research internships at the universities of Warwick and Cambridge. I won a highly competitive scholarship (4% acceptance rate) that fully funded my research and living costs at the University of Cambridge. Conferences: I was selected to chair the International Conference of Undergraduate Research, and have also been selected to present my research at an international scientific conference (Annual Microbiology Society Conference).
