About Irene
I am currently a Graduate Entry Medicine student at the University of Oxford. Before studying medicine, I completed a PhD in Neuroscience at UCL, an MSc in Neuroscience and a BSc in Molecular Biology, and worked in academic research at UCL, the University of Cambridge and King's College London.
My route into medicine was therefore somewhat different from the traditional school-leaver pathway, and I can offer particular insight to applicants coming from science degrees, postgraduate study or research careers as well as students applying directly from school.
I have experience teaching and mentoring students across different levels. During my research career I supervised students and helped them develop their understanding of experimental design, data analysis and scientific literature. At Oxford, I have designed and delivered neuroscience teaching for students aged 16–18, taught visiting university students about studying Medicine at Oxford, and am undertaking formal training in university teaching.
I have also supported prospective applicants informally with applications to Medicine and postgraduate programmes.
My approach to admissions tutoring is to help applicants develop their own reasoning and communicate it effectively. I do not believe that successful interviews come from memorising model answers; particularly at Oxford, being able to think clearly, use scientific knowledge and respond constructively to unfamiliar questions is much more important.

I offer one-to-one support for students applying to UK medical schools, with particular expertise in Oxford Medicine and academically demanding medical-school applications.
Sessions are tailored to the stage of your application and can include medical-school selection and application strategy, interview preparation, mock interviews, developing clear and structured answers, discussing motivation for medicine, ethical and clinical scenarios, and practising the scientific reasoning required in academically focused interviews.
For Oxford applicants, I can provide first-hand insight into the admissions process and help students prepare for the style of questioning used to explore scientific understanding, reasoning and the ability to think through unfamiliar problems. Rather than teaching rehearsed answers, I focus on helping students explain their thinking clearly and respond confidently when challenged.
I can also support applicants to other UK medical schools, including preparation for traditional panel interviews and MMIs. For students considering graduate-entry medicine, I can offer specific guidance based on my own route from academic research into medicine.
Lessons are normally 60 minutes and are conducted online. Mock interviews can be structured to reproduce the pressure and unpredictability of a real interview, followed by detailed feedback and targeted practice.

Irene is an exceptional academic with a track record that speaks for itself. She scored 99% in Verbal Reasoning on the UCAT, placing her among the top scorers in the country, and was awarded two scholarships from Oxford University for Graduate Entry Medicine, where she passed her first year with 84%. She also holds one of the most prestigious PhD scholarships available, from the Wellcome Trust, for her research in Neuroscience, and is an author on two papers published in Nature.
With three degrees and a fourth currently underway at Oxford, Irene brings deep expertise across medicine, UCAT preparation, biology, neuroscience and science more broadly. She has taught extensively, from summer schools to one-to-one tutoring, and genuinely loves it.
Beyond the qualifications, what sets Irene apart is how she teaches. She is one of the kindest and most empathetic tutors you'll meet, and she's deeply committed to making learning feel like a safe, pressure-free space. If you're nervous about tackling something new, she's just as happy to chat about her cat Mochi first, until you feel ready to dive in.
Whether you're prepping for the UCAT, working through medical school content, or exploring neuroscience, Irene combines serious academic rigour with a warm, patient approach that puts students at ease.I have known Irene for more than a year now, having completed our pre-clinical year of Graduate-Entry Medicine at Oxford together. In that time, I have come to know her well, both as a friend and through her teaching. Pre-clinical medicine was a steep learning curve for me, as I come from a non-biology background, and Irene has helped me understand difficult concepts on many occasions. She has been a constant source of kindness, knowledge, and encouragement. Irene explains concepts clearly, takes the time to understand where someone is struggling, and teaches with patience and empathy. I wholeheartedly recommend Irene to anyone looking for a dedicated and caring medicine tutor.
Irene is a passionate and knowledgeable tutor. She is patient and caring, recognising the strengths and weaknesses of each student and guiding them through the learning process at a well-judged pace, with unfailing support and encouragement. Her sessions are not only remarkably rewarding, but also thoroughly enjoyable!
I would wholeheartedly recommend Irene to anyone wishing to master the ‘hard stuff’ while learning through fun and play. A truly first-class tutor, with Oxford standards!Irene has a PhD in neuroscience and taught me neuroscience topics. She is really knowledgeable and well informed. I recommend her as a teacher.
