About Phoebe

I studied Philosophy and Linguistics at Oxford University, with my thesis in the semantics of fiction. I am particularly interested in Philosophy of Mind, Semantics, and Feminist Philosophy. I begin my MSt in Creative Writing at Oxford part-time in September, and was shortlisted for Oxford's 2025 BNU Creative Writing Award, so am also happy to give creative writing guidance.

About the lesson

I am an Oxford Philosophy and Linguistics grad and would love to help any applications for Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics (PPL), or for other philosophy joint-schools subjects (Philosophy and Computer Science/ Maths, etc). I tutor the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA test) and provide Oxbridge interview preparation. I am also happy to look over and critique personal statements.

I failed on my first application to Oxford (Psychology and Philosophy), studied the TSA for a year, and got in on my second attempt (Philosophy and Linguistics) - safe to say I know the TSA and Oxbridge interview technique well! In interview lessons, for linguistics I provide timed data set questions and discussion points, and for philosophy we discuss philosophical scenarios and questions (including the ones that I was asked in my 8 total interviews) with extensive feedback.

I took Philosophy, Psychology, and English Literature and Language A-Level (A*A*A*) and got 9s in English Literature and Language. I am looking to tutor any of these subjects! In particular, I can help students to break down complicated philosophy topics and approach philosophy questions effectively in exam conditions, having run tutoring sessions for Philosophy A-Level in the past. I can also teach predicate logic.

Phoebe explains ideas and arguments in philosophy to me clearly and helps to identify where an argument goes wrong. We have extensively discussed topics like free will and determinism and philosophy of consciousness in a way that I find easy to digest.
