About Sam

I have recently graduated from a master's degree in Chinese studies at the University of Oxford. Having obtained my BA (1:1) in the same subject, I am looking to use my skills and experience to benefit those looking to make academic progress in the humanities and languages. I have experience in teaching English in China and Taiwan, as well as experience teaching Chinese and French and preparing students for UK university interviews. I combine a commitment to academic rigour with an approachable, friendly manner driven by my love of helping others to engage in the topics which they are studying. With me, studying will be both rewarding and enjoyable.

About the lesson

I have been on both sides of the classroom both as a teacher and as a student and so I am familiar with what makes for good learning practice. My teaching style is rooted in Oxford's proven technique of using intelligent questioning as the best way to bring students to arrive at greater understanding and knowledge by their own intelligence rather than simply sitting silently and listening to a teacher lecture at them.

Justin

I have known Sam for about 7 years now, first having met him when I interviewed him for his BA in Chinese at Oxford. He demonstrated himself in interview to be an exceptional person head and shoulders above many other applicants.
This initial judgement was borne out to be accurate during his tenure on the course where he performed at the level of a first over the course and received that mark in his finals.
I know that Sam would make an excellent tutor. In addition to his natural intelligence, he has a strong pedagogical nous and his previous experience in teaching has always seen him get rave reviews from his students. He is a very responsible person with a strong work ethic.
