About Cecilia
I am a Classics student at the University of Oxford with a longstanding academic interest in the ancient world. My studies have taken me from an early enthusiasm for Latin in high school through to advanced university-level work, and I have developed a particular appreciation for the languages, literature, and history of Greece and Rome.
Before beginning my degree, I achieved perfect scores on the National Latin Exam for several years, reflecting my dedication to the subject from an early stage. At Oxford, I have continued to deepen my knowledge through the close study of ancient texts and the cultures that produced them. I not only learned Ancient Greek in less than four months at the start of university, but took my interest in the languages further in the realm of historical and comparative linguistics, exploring how the grammar and syntax of the languages work, tracing from Proto-Indo European.
I believe that Classics is a subject with something to offer everyone. Although Latin and Ancient Greek can seem daunting at first, the ancient world is full of fascinating stories, ideas, and perspectives that anyone can engage with. I am passionate about sharing my enthusiasm for Classics and showing others how rewarding the subject can be.

No two students learn in exactly the same way, so I tailor every lesson to your individual goals, strengths, and learning style. Whether you're starting Latin or Ancient Greek for the first time, preparing for an exam, or working through challenging university texts, lessons are designed around what will help you progress most and what you are most interested in learning.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material and any questions you have before moving on to new concepts or translating a text together. Along the way, we'll work through grammar, vocabulary, and syntax in a way that emphasizes understanding rather than memorization. My aim is not just to help you get the right answer, but to help you understand why it's the right answer, so you can approach new passages with confidence.
I want lessons to be engaging, supportive, and interactive, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and think through problems together. Classics can seem intimidating at first, but with the right approach it's incredibly rewarding, and I hope to help students enjoy the process as much as the result.
I teach Latin, Ancient Greek, Classical Civilization, and ancient history to students of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners. Whether you're studying for AP, the National Latin Exam, GCSE, A-Level, university exams, or simply learning out of personal interest, I am excited to help!
