About Tom

I am a recent graduate from the University of Oxford (graduated in 2025 with a high 2:1), with GCSEs and A Levels in Latin and Ancient Greek. My thesis was on the Roman author Cicero, but I enjoy a wide selection of Classical authors, including Homer, Herodotus and the Greek tragedians; in Latin, my favourites are Virgil, Livy and Horace. I have a passion for the intricacies of grammar, having taken a paper in Latin Linguistics for my finals, as well as for history and literary analysis (I came second in my Oxford cohort in three of the most popular papers: Archaic Greek History, the Aeneid and Greek Tragedy).

About the lesson

Lessons 40-120 minutes, depending on student's needs. A very high 2:1 in Classics from University of Oxford, with experience of teaching all secondary years during a 3-month placement in a West London state school. Lessons for all ages 11+, including adult learners.
I like to focus especially on translation skills, working through a passage in detail to model ideal practices and to reinforce the student's ability to do this independently. I can also provide help with literature essays at GCSE and A Level.
I have experience of helping candidates prepare for subject tests and interviews for admission to Oxford and Cambridge, and am happy to provide coaching and practice for these.
