About Aston
I am a final-year DPhil researcher in Biology at the University of Oxford, where I study molecular and cellular processes in plants. My research spans genetics, molecular biology and proteomics, and I also have previous experience with human cell culture.
My doctoral research has given me extensive experience designing experiments, interpreting complex results, troubleshooting approaches and critically evaluating competing explanations. I also have experience teaching undergraduate students at Oxford, including helping students develop broader scientific reasoning skills.
I particularly enjoy discussing difficult scientific problems where there is not an obvious answer. My teaching focuses on asking questions, challenging assumptions and helping students develop the confidence to reason independently rather than simply being told the solution.

My sessions are aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate bioscience students who want to develop their scientific reasoning and approach to experimental research.
Sessions are tailored to the areas you want to develop. We can work through experimental design, appropriate controls, hypothesis development, interpretation of results, alternative explanations and how to approach unfamiliar research problems.
Rather than simply providing answers, I will challenge you to explain your reasoning, identify assumptions and consider what evidence would distinguish between different interpretations. We can also use research papers, experimental scenarios or examples from your field as starting points for discussion.
My aim is to help you become a more confident and independent scientific thinker, with skills that transfer across research projects and biological disciplines.
