About Catalana

I’m a warm, friendly, and approachable tutor who genuinely enjoys helping others learn and build confidence in their abilities. I understand that studying can sometimes feel overwhelming, so I aim to create a calm, supportive space where you feel comfortable asking questions and working at your own pace.

I have lived, worked and been educated in four different countries so I understand and value different cultures and communication styles.

My interest in psychology comes from a real curiosity about people and how we think, feel, and learn. This naturally shapes how I teach—I’m patient, encouraging, and focused on helping you understand things in a way that actually makes sense to you, rather than just memorising content.

I enjoy working with a wide range of students, from those who may be struggling and need extra support, to those aiming for top grades and wanting to deepen their understanding. I’m particularly passionate about helping students feel more confident in their academic skills, especially when it comes to structuring essays and expressing their ideas clearly.

Outside of tutoring, I value continuous learning and personal development, and I bring that mindset into my teaching. My goal is not just to help you improve academically, but to help you feel more confident and capable in your learning overall.

About the lesson

I hold a degree in Psychology, a 140-hour TEFL certificate, and I am currently finishing a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. I was also awarded the British Psychological Society (BPS) Undergraduate Award for achieving the highest degree mark in my cohort of over 250 students. In addition, I have experience as a Peer Assisted Learning Support (PALS) leader, where I supported undergraduate students in developing their academic skills and understanding course material.

My approach to tutoring is student-centred, supportive, and tailored to individual learning styles. I focus on building both subject understanding and confidence, ensuring students not only improve their grades but also develop independent thinking and study skills.

I use a combination of guided discussion, structured explanations, and active learning techniques. This includes breaking down complex psychological concepts into clear, manageable parts, using real-world examples, and helping students practise exam-style questions and essay writing. For students needing academic support, I also provide guidance on structuring essays, critical analysis, and research skills.

Lessons are typically 50–60 minutes long, though longer sessions can be arranged for more in-depth support (e.g. dissertation or assignment help).

My lessons are suitable for GCSE, A-level, and undergraduate students studying psychology, as well as individuals looking for support with academic writing or English for academic purposes. I also welcome adult learners and those interested in psychology for personal or professional development.

I particularly enjoy working with students who want to deepen their understanding of psychology or improve their academic writing to a high standard.
