About Karen
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree, and studied music through the Toronto Conservatory of Music program. With many years of teaching in different settings, my favorite aspect of sharing my knowledge and experience is watching my students feel a sense of accomplishment for their efforts. When students who hated reading share the joys of finishing a novel, or someone who struggled to play a scale with decent technique performs a piece of music full of technically challenging sections with confidence, I know that our time together has been worth all the work they put into reaching their goals.

Everyone learns differently, and I like to gear my approach to what will work for you, the student, to help you reach your learning goals. Whether the time is for a younger student struggling to read, or an adult who is struggling with literacy, proper writing skills or comprehension as a New English speaker, I like an informal relaxed approach with real life applications for what you are learning. Not looking for English but music lessons? I ensure you have a solid foundation from which to build your skills, with proper technique as a base so you are able to progress properly. Although I use a more classical approach, I am flexible on materials to help you enjoy learning to play the piano and understand music.
