  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

My fascination with music began during my childhood, and at the age of 11, I embarked on my musical journey. In 2009, I initiated my formal musical education at the renowned "Kathak Kendra," where I delved into the art of classical Tabla to accompany the mesmerizing 'Kathak' dance. As time progressed, my quest for music led me across Europe in 2014, allowing me to experience diverse musical instruments worldwide. This exposure nurtured my passion for mastering various instruments alongside Tabla. Today, I am not only proficient in Tabla but have also received expert training in Darbuka from the esteemed Percussionist Guru, Shri Suchet Malhotra. My skills also extend to playing Djembe and Cajon.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

My musical taste encompasses an array of global genres, with a special affinity for jazz, classical, Arabic, and Indian music. The fusion of jazz with Indian melodies captivates me. Among my treasured artists are Trilok Gurtu, Snarky Puppy, Zakir Hussain, Michael Jackson, Dhafer Youssef, Tinariwen, and AP Dhillon.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music?

The course I offer is an odyssey of slow and steady progress. I guide students to embark on a meticulous musical journey where each step contributes to their ultimate mastery. It's crucial to invest time in consistent practice and immerse oneself in a plethora of musical genres. My role as a teacher is to provide structure while encouraging students to unearth their unique musical identity.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Among the intricate instruments, classical gems like Tabla and Darbuka stand out due to their rich heritage and intricate techniques. The depth of their musical legacy demands devotion and rigorous training, making their mastery a rewarding challenge.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

My path to success intertwines self-belief and daily devotion to practice. Even on uninspired days, I advocate a simple action: clean your instrument. This small gesture often leads to impromptu playing. Moreover, engaging with rhythmic exercises and studying diverse artists without an instrument in hand enriches musical growth, especially during travels.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

An early morning rendezvous with three music legends-Trilok Gurtu, Zakir Hussain, and Dhafer Youssef-would be a dream realized. Trilok Gurtu's fusion mastery intrigues me, Zakir Hussain's Tabla virtuosity is unparalleled, and Dhafer Youssef's blending of jazz and Arabic melodies creates magic. Conversations with these geniuses would offer insights into their artistic philosophies and inspire my musical journey.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

During my tenure at "Kathak Kendra," I had the privilege of interacting with stalwarts like Pt. Birju Maharaaj and imbibing wisdom from my respected mentor, Shri Gobinda Chakerborty. These encounters, combined with my relentless dedication, culminated in consistent excellence. I topped my class in annual exams and was honoured with a scholarship, validating my musical endeavours.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

My approach centres on adapting lessons to individual students, recognizing their uniqueness and fostering their distinct musical expression. Punctuality, unwavering focus on students, and a profound passion for teaching characterize my style. Additionally, my commitment to extending my teaching to economically disadvantaged students, in exchange for their dedication and practice, adds a humane touch to my role.
