About Kate
About me: I have a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing and an MA in International Journalism. I work as a writer and editor at Trill Magazine, where I produce and edit engaging editorial content, and I also have experience working in television!
I want to teach because I have a genuine passion for English, particularly literature and poetry, and I love helping others discover its meaning and power. I believe English is more than just a subject; it is a way of understanding people, ideas, and the world around us. I want students to see why it is so important, not just for exams, but for communication, creativity, and critical thinking.
Poetry, in particular, has always been something I value deeply because of its ability to express complex emotions and ideas in a powerful, accessible way. I enjoy helping students break down texts and realise that there is no “right” way to interpret literature, but rather many valid perspectives to explore.
Teaching allows me to share this enthusiasm and help students build confidence in their own voice, whether through analysis or creative writing. My aim is to make English feel engaging, relevant, and meaningful, and to show students that it can be both enjoyable and empowering.

My lessons are highly personalised, engaging, and tailored to each student's individual needs, goals, and learning style. I believe every student learns differently, so I create lessons that build confidence, encourage curiosity, and make learning enjoyable.
I hold a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing and an MA in International Journalism. Alongside my work as a writer and editor at Trill Magazine, this has given me strong expertise in English Language, English Literature, creative writing, essay writing, and critical analysis.
I currently tutor three students each week at KS2, Year 9, and GCSE level. This experience has helped me develop a flexible teaching style that adapts to different ages, abilities, and learning preferences.
My lessons combine guided reading, creative writing, discussion, interactive activities, exam preparation, and confidence-building exercises. For younger learners, I use engaging games and activities, while older students receive focused support with essay writing, textual analysis, and exam techniques.
Above all, I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing their skills, and reaching their full potential. I am patient, approachable, and passionate about helping students succeed in English.
