About Ben
Thank you for visiting my profile! With a First Class Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Bath, coupled with a variety of experience, I’m dedicated to helping students bridge the knowledge gap, and break into the finance industry. My professional career began with a placement year as part of my university degree, where I worked in audit and accounting, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of financial principles. At this company I completed a secondment in the Corporate Finance department, and quickly realised that this was the area I wanted to pursue a career in. Following extensive research and networking, it became apparent that almost everybody in this industry had experience from a younger age than me, giving them an edge. To bridge this gap, I realised that I had to put in a lot of work to make myself a more competitive candidate, which is when I decided to sit the CFA level 1 exam. Shortly after completing this, and scoring in the 90th percentile, I began a graduate role, returning to the Corporate Finance department where my responsibilities broadly cover M&A sell side advisory and transaction services. Alongside this, I’m committed to continuous professional development and so I am also completing my ACA qualification. Now, in my spare time, I’m passionate about giving back by offering mentoring and coaching to those embarking on their early careers in finance, helping them navigate their paths and achieve their professional goals.

The finance sector is one of the most competitive sectors globally, with multiple companies receiving hundreds of thousands of applications and less than 1% of them being successful (e.g. Goldman Sachs, Investment Banking Analyst). Whether you're interested in applying for one of these roles, or something else business-related, it's essential that you set yourself up for success by taking the right steps now, so that in the future you can land a position in your dream role. Having personally been on the wrong end of the above statistic, I dedicated over 1000 hours to changing the trajectory of my career, and can proudly say that I now work in mergers and acquisitions and am in the process of attaining my ACA qualification. The good news is that it doesn't have to take 1000's of hours for you. Having spoken with the Head of UK M&A at JP Morgan, she made it clear how important it was to start early, and have someone who knows the process to guide you through - This is where I come in! Unfortunately, I was one of the many individuals who didn't have a role model in the industry who understood the ins and outs. Subsequently, I decided to dedicate some of my time to helping out those who're in a similar situation to what I was in, and best position them to land their dream roles. I strongly believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach, and that it's essential to tailor my sessions to each individual's needs and wants. I recently approached Ben for assistance explaining a complex mathematical problem on the business studies specification and he clearly explained the methodology. If you are interested in maths lessons and want a friendly and articulate tutor Ben would be the perfect fit for the job.
Ben was a great help in bringing my son George up to speed with the rest of his class after a couple of disappointing results.
