About Amrit

I am a Politics tutor with 9 years of tutoring experience across Politics, Law, Sociology and Criminology, alongside previous experience in early-years Maths, English and Science tutoring.

Having ADHD myself, alongside traits associated with autism, dyspraxia, dyslexia and dyscalculia, I understand that highly intelligent and capable students do not always thrive within conventional learning methods. I remained undiagnosed throughout my own academic journey, yet achieved strong academic results by developing personalised revision systems, learning techniques and structure-based strategies that worked specifically for the way my brain processes information. Many of these approaches now form part of the methods my own students consistently praise and benefit from.

I graduated with a First Class Law and Sociology LLB and later achieved a High Merit in my Law with Social Justice Master’s at UCL. As part of my legal studies, I studied Constitutional Law at degree level, including the UK constitution, Parliament, the executive, judicial power and the relationship between the different branches of government. I have also studied the judiciary in both UK and US contexts, giving me a strong academic foundation for teaching areas such as the Supreme Court, judicial independence, checks and balances and constitutional relationships.

I also have experience volunteering in schools, delivering lessons on law, politics and social rights, and currently conduct socio-legal and policy research as Head of Research for a legal education charity.

Alongside this, I have attended and received offers to study at leading global universities and have completed the Bar Course at ICCA, the professional training course for aspiring barristers, funded by two highly competitive scholarships.

About the lesson

My Politics lessons are highly adaptable and tailored to the individual student. I focus particularly on exam technique, essay structure, political analysis, evaluation, source questions, confidence building and helping students understand exactly what the assessment objectives require.

A major focus of my teaching is making Politics exam technique feel much more logical and concrete. Students can often know a significant amount of political content but struggle to understand how to turn that knowledge into AO1 knowledge, AO2 analysis and AO3 evaluation. I break these assessment objectives down clearly and show students exactly what each one should look like within an essay.

A typical lesson may begin with the student completing a short timed brainstorm of an essay question from memory. I then use structured prompts, questions and clues to help them develop their ideas before giving targeted feedback on missing examples, thinkers, arguments, counterarguments and evaluation.

Depending on the student's understanding, we may then develop their brainstorm into an essay plan, improve individual paragraphs or work through a full model answer with commentary explaining the exam technique being used.

I place particular emphasis on teaching students how to make clear comparative judgements rather than simply presenting two sides of an argument. This includes showing students how to weigh competing arguments, recognise nuance and explain why one factor may ultimately be more significant while still acknowledging limitations and counterarguments.

I have worked with many neurodivergent students, including students with ADHD, autism and dyslexia. My teaching therefore places a strong emphasis on clarity, structure and reducing overwhelm, alongside personalised revision, organisation and active-recall strategies where appropriate.

Ultimately, my aim is to help students not only understand Politics, but to understand how to think, revise and write like a high-level Politics student under exam conditions.
