About Olha
Welcome to learn Ukrainian! I am Olha, and I teach Ukrainian as a second language online. I am an English teacher by education, and I graduated from a university in Ukraine (KNLU) and the University of Helsinki in Finland. I speak English and Finnish at C1-C2 level, and I can teach both in Finnish and English. My Ukrainian language skills are excellent: I wrote the Ukrainian language and literature exam in Ukraine in 2009 and received 197.5 points out of 200. In school and high school, I participated in numerous Ukrainian language and literature competitions, and I have taken 1st place in my home region for 7 years in a row. At Kiev University, I studied a few Ukrainian-related courses (language, literature and history), where I was one of the best students in the group. As a teacher, I am attentive and encouraging, and I also always try to bring information about Ukrainian culture into the teaching content. I like to discuss my experiences in Ukraine and share good materials for self-study.

I teach Ukrainian as a second language in Finnish or English online. In the lessons, I use the Ukrainian language textbook and my own diverse and interesting materials, which I am constantly developing (slides, PDF files, Wordwall word games, texts from the media, YouTube playlists, etc.). I share the materials in Google Classroom and they can also be used for self-study. I teach students of different levels - from beginners to advanced. If you are a beginner, we start by studying the Ukrainian alphabet, focus on correct pronunciation, and continue by theme, learning vocabulary and phrases. The topics of the A1 level lessons are self-introduction, work and hobbies, eating, shopping, Ukrainian society and culture. With the more advanced students, we look at interesting and important topics on a case-by-case basis and practice a lot of speaking and grammar. You can ask for a lot of homework, and I also support students outside of class if necessary.
