About Diane

Hello, my name is Ziyi Jian (菅子怡), and I’m a native Mandarin speaker from Inner Mongolia, China. My pronunciation is clear and standard, shaped by my northern upbringing and enriched by time spent living, studying, and working in southern cities like Ningbo and Shenzhen. This gives me a balanced view of Mandarin as it’s spoken and used across different regions. I’m also a designer by profession, and out of personal interest, I’ve practiced Chinese hard-pen calligraphy for years, especially Kaishu and Xingshu. I enjoy exploring the structure and rhythm of Chinese characters, and often integrate this visual perspective into how I teach. I enjoy travel, animals, nature, music and esports, and I see language as a bridge between people and cultures. To me, learning Mandarin is not only about speaking correctly but also about experiencing the rhythms and stories behind the words. About the lesson

My lessons are personalised and flexible, focusing on clear pronunciation, practical communication and cultural context. As a native Mandarin speaker with a design background, I pay close attention to structure, rhythm and visual logic when teaching language and characters.

A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes and can include speaking practice, listening, reading, basic writing, or Chinese calligraphy (hard-pen Kaishu and Xingshu) depending on your interests and goals.

My lessons are suitable for beginners to intermediate learners, especially adults who want to learn standard Mandarin, improve real-life communication, or better understand Chinese culture through language, writing and everyday examples.
