About Esther

Hi, I'm Esther. English, Mandarin and Cantonese are all native languages for me. I have taught for over 20 years, from elementary school to college. I teach English for Academic Purposes at Miami Dade College and English at EF Education First. In Hong Kong I was booked directly by about 10 international schools to teach English and Mandarin, and I tutored senior executives' families privately. I hold a BA (Hons) in English Language Teaching. I teach Chinese, both Mandarin and Cantonese, to all ages. I also teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to second-language learners of all ages.

About the lesson

Chinese lessons are for all ages, from first words onward, and young children of elementary age and younger can also get help in all subjects. Our first lesson is a chance to meet, hear your level and set a goal together. Each lesson then builds speaking and listening alongside reading and writing, with Traditional or Simplified characters and Pinyin. School students can follow their class textbook and homework. Heritage learners who understand Chinese at home practice speaking, reading and writing. For school-age students, I send parents a short progress note after each lesson. Lessons are online or in person (at your home or my place near South Miami). Rate is negotiable based on the number of lessons booked; regular students get a lower rate.
