About Kei

I am a native Japanese speaker currently living in Christchurch, New Zealand, and am dedicated to teaching Japanese with a focus on personalized, effective learning. To enhance my teaching expertise, I am currently studying for the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test. With over 3 years of tutoring experience and more than 8 years of language exchange, I am passionate about helping students at all levels. I also bring my two years of administrative experience in a Japanese logistics company to offer business Japanese lessons. I aim to create a fun, supportive learning environment where students can build confidence and make real progress in their Japanese skills.

About the lesson

I take a flexible, student-centered approach, tailoring lessons to suit each learner's needs and goals. I focus on communication and practice, combining conversation with grammar and vocabulary. For beginners, we start with basic phrases and gradually build skills. For advanced learners, I incorporate more complex topics and business language if needed. Each lesson typically lasts 60 minutes, and I offer both in-person and online lessons. I have over 3 years of tutoring experience and am currently studying for the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test. My lessons are for all levels — from beginners to NCEA students, university learners, and professionals.

Perfect! Kei is a great teacher, she is incredibly kind, patient and puts real effort into each lesson which makes them feel tailored to my needs. She keeps track of what's been taught so the lessons flow smoothly and don't feel overwhelming. I also appreciate the revision and homework materials so I can reinforce what I've learned in between lessons.
I'm making good progress and would absolutely recommend her.

Vinny is a very impressive student who has been studying Japanese on Duolingo for over 800 days. He already knows many words and has also learned some kanji. I look forward to continuing our lessons together as he prepares for the JLPT in December.
