About GEN

Hello, I’m GEN. I’m a **native Japanese speaker and a professional Japanese language teacher from Japan**.

I teach Japanese **exclusively online** and regularly work with learners from different countries, backgrounds, and learning goals. I teach students ranging from complete beginners who are starting Japanese from scratch to learners preparing for the JLPT, including students studying at the N2 level.

I have completed a **420-hour Japanese Language Teacher Training Course in Japan**, a specialized training program designed for people who want to teach Japanese to non-native speakers.

During this training, I studied Japanese teaching methodology, learner error analysis, grammar instruction, lesson design, teaching materials, teaching practice, and intercultural communication.

So, I am not simply a Japanese person who speaks Japanese. I have also received professional training in **how to teach Japanese to people who are learning it as a foreign language**.

In my regular teaching, I work with learners on a variety of goals, including JLPT preparation, grammar, reading, listening, conversation, and improving natural Japanese. I do not use exactly the same approach for every student. I adjust my lessons according to each learner’s level, goals, strengths, weaknesses, and pace of learning.

I am also studying English and Vietnamese myself, so I understand the challenges of learning a foreign language from the learner’s perspective.

I believe that knowing a language and being able to teach that language are two different skills. A good teacher needs both a strong command of the language and the ability to explain it clearly from the learner’s point of view.

That is the kind of teacher I aim to be.

About My Lessons

My lessons are designed to help you understand Japanese, use it correctly, and eventually speak it naturally.

I offer lessons for complete beginners as well as intermediate and advanced learners. Depending on your goals, we can focus on conversation, grammar, listening, reading, natural Japanese expressions, or JLPT preparation from N5 to N2.

I don't want you to simply memorize grammar and vocabulary. I want you to understand how and why Japanese is used in real situations. As a native Japanese speaker, I can also explain the differences between similar expressions, subtle nuances, natural word choice, pronunciation, and expressions that may be grammatically correct but sound unnatural to native speakers.

When you make a mistake, I don't simply tell you that it is wrong. I explain why it is wrong or unnatural and how a Japanese person would normally say it.

I also adjust my lessons to your level, goals, and learning pace. If you understand Japanese but have difficulty speaking, we can focus on conversation. If you can speak but want to sound more natural, we can work on expressions and nuances. If you are preparing for the JLPT, we can focus on the skills you need for your target level.

I believe that learning Japanese should be challenging enough to help you improve, but not so difficult that you lose motivation. My goal is to help you make steady progress and feel that you are becoming more confident in Japanese.

You don't need to know exactly what you should study. If you have a goal but aren't sure how to reach it, we can find the best learning approach for you together.

Let's go beyond simply studying Japanese and work toward actually using it.

Details

My lesson fee is for a private, one-on-one online lesson with a native Japanese teacher.

There are no additional classroom or travel fees. Depending on your level, goals, and learning style, I may recommend purchasing a suitable textbook to help you study systematically and make steady progress. However, a textbook is not always necessary, and I can also provide learning materials when appropriate.

If you would like to use a specific textbook that I do not currently have, you may need to cover the cost of purchasing that textbook separately.

The lesson fee includes personalized instruction, clear explanations, corrections, and practice based on your level and goals.

If you have a specific goal, such as JLPT preparation, improving your conversation skills, or learning natural Japanese, I can adjust the lesson content accordingly.

If you are not sure which textbook or study method is best for you, we can discuss your goals and current level and decide what would be most suitable for you.
