About Kilian
Languages have fascinated me since I was a kid. They felt like portals to other worlds. Growing up, I was fortunate to learn German, English, and French. When my English-speaking spouse started taking German lessons, very little time in the classroom was spent on pronunciation. She was fluent—but it wasn‘t German. I made it my mission to teach her proper German pronunciation, using the sounds of English. Most of the required sounds are available somewhere in the English speaker‘s repertoire. This approach did the trick for her. German speakers no longer switched to English, and with every conversation, her confidence grew. This inspired me so much that I developed a comprehensive method around this approach: teaching German using the sounds of English. The result is this book—a practical guide to achieve near-native German pronunciation.

I’ve developed a system of simple rules to help English speakers reduce their accent when speaking German. In my classes, we cover every German sound and how it differs from English. Using the rules from my book, we practise with a wide range of examples to master each sound. We also focus on common pitfalls and how to avoid them. My lessons are highly individualised, tailored to your level, needs, and goals. Each class lasts 45 minutes and is suitable for both beginners and advanced learners who want to improve their German pronunciation.
