About Melanie
I am a native French and English speaker who grew up in a very international environment in Belgium. I have a background in Education and have travelled to many countries! I went to school in Belgium, then moved to the UK to complete my degree in Childhood Studies.
I currently work as an academic support worker in higher education. I have both personal and work experience in neurodivergent education and have done extensive training on autism, ADHD and dyslexia.
I started tutoring almost 10 years ago. Teaching English to francophone children. I have always loved both teaching and learning!

I can offer lessons both in person within York, or online.
I love working 1-1 to really get to know each student and their interests to make every lesson as engaging and fun as possible. I can create a casual learning environment, or be more structured as needed. I have also worked with families running small group sessions and would be happy to discuss this with you too. Whatever the reasons you or your child want to learn French, I will tailor my lessons to your goals and needs.
I can work with children aged 5+ (face to face only).
For these sessions, I am very mindful of pace. I have worked in nursery schools and with families teaching both individual sessions or as a group. I am happy to give shorter lessons if that is preferred. I keep them light and creative! I love to incorporate play, games and art in lessons with younger children.
For GSCE or A-Level support I can help with exam and course work preparation, study skills or offer more generalised French lessons.
I welcome anyone with any written or spoken ability, and can focus on conversation too.
You do not need to be working towards any exam or qualification either! We can work together to learn French in a more relaxed way too.
Please feel free to discuss any learning needs you or your child may have. I have a background in Early Years Education with a focus on disability. I currently work providing academic support for neurodivergent university students. I am particularly well versed in autism and also have experience working with ADHD and dyslexia. I aim to make my lessons as accessible and comfortable as possible.
