About Catriona

My name is Cat and I am from the UK. I have a degree in humanities (media, psychology, French and EFL.) I am Cambridge CELTA certified and have been teaching English for 25 years.

I also work as a tour guide in Europe and South America. I have my own tour agency in Argentina, where I currently live. I have travelled extensively in 5 continents and I speak French and Spanish to a high level. I also speak some Italian, German and Japanese. I offer translations to English from Spanish and French.

Although I was born in the UK, and apart from the travelling, I have spent time living in Japan, Thailand, France, Greece, Peru, Argentina, The Gambia, and Mauritania.

I enjoy meeting people from all over the world and am interested in what I can learn from them. Learning is a two-way street, every experience, every encounter teaches us something. I have great friends from far and wide, people who come from cultures very different to my own, but with whom I have connected in some way.

I love teaching English and studying languages. I am very interested in the differences and similarities between languages which can influence the way that a person thinks. Using Spanish daily, it fascinates me how sometimes there is no direct translation, and how we have to settle for the closest meaning. Learning a language expands our minds.

About the lesson

Classes are tailored to the needs of the student. We will work on the 4 skills. Beginner and elementary students will have structured lessons to help them acheive specific goals and advance quickly, with a focus on fluency and communication. At high levels, we will look at the common mistakes that you make with a view to correcting them. In conversation classes, we look to help you speak naturally.

Instead of translating from your native tongue, look to find the rhythm of English. Learn to think in English. Relax. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Understand how the language works. Then you will really start to speak like a native.
